Kylie Jenner’s CBD Connection
It is no secret that the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan set trends and inspire millions of people around the world to buy the products they promote. The family is earning some serious cash as of late. Kim boasts a net worth of $370 million, Kris with $60 million, Khloe with $40 million, Kourtney with $35 million and Kendall with $30 million. But what about the youngest in the family? Little Kylie Jenner is not so little anymore. She is a full-blown independent and successful businesswoman with a net worth of $1 billion.
With net worths like that, it is no wonder that brands across the globe are clamoring to get a piece of the Kardashian-Jenner action. Momager Kris Jenner told Harper’s Bazar that endorsement deals on the girls’ Instagram accounts could run in the six figures for one post. Kris also said the cost for a sponsored post is higher if the ad is for “a pharmaceutical product, if it’s something that you’re going to drink, or ingest, or put on your body.”
The Kardashians and CBD
When Kylie Jenner posts about Happy Tea, a CBD laced tea, on her Instagram page- the world takes notice. The tea belongs to the Fit Tea family, a producer of many detox teas. Fit Tea’s products are no stranger to celebrity endorsements. Kylie’s sisters, Cardi B, and other influencers regularly post about the tea and its positive weight loss effects.
Kylie’s endorsement is not the first time the Kardashians publically endorsed CBD. Before her child Pslam’s birth by surrogate, Kim Kardashian threw a CBD-themed baby shower for herself. The shower promoted everything from CBD-infused bath salts to lotions. The theme of the party was “CBD and Meditation,” full of sound baths and meditative activities to give party-goers an intense dose of zen.
CBD and Fitness
CBD is infiltrating the fitness market, appearing in everything from power bars to CBD-infused water. The appeal of CBD for athletes is related to pain management. CBD helps to ease inflammation and pain, making it easier to get back out and get another work out on the books. The anti-inflammatory properties present in CBD help to lessen swelling and can speed up muscle recovery. Topical CBD creams are also popular with athletes looking to target direct muscle pain.
Studies have also shown CBD to be capable of reducing the stress hormone known as cortisol. Increased levels of this stress hormone connect to an array of health complications like high blood sugar and reduced immune system. These are linked to a variety of health issues like hypertension and lowered immunity.
The CBD Wellness Lifestyle
So what is Happy Tea, and how did it land on Kylie’s Instagram page? Happy Tea is a 10mg natural hemp extract that comes in a powder form. You can dissolve the packets into water, tea, or a shake. The product does not contain THC and claims to have possible benefits like a reduction in stress, anxiety, and inflammation. Happy Tea markets as a product containing a powerful blend of all-natural ingredients loaded with antioxidants and CBD.
CBD is a significant player in the wellness market as it provides relief for anxiety, pain, and an array of other issues. The founder of Happy Tea started his company based on his own experience with anxiety. As he states in his e-book, “In the past, I struggled with sticking to a specific plan to combat my anxiety disorder. Many of the blogs and lists read wanted you to see therapists, chant mantras, [and more] to help you stop stressing, ease your mind, and calm your anxiety. That wasn’t going to work for me. It’s not my personality to try something and HOPE that it would help. I needed something REAL.” Enter: Happy Tea!
One Small Step for CBD…
Kylie Jenner’s endorsement is a significant step for CBD companies everywhere. The FDA is still conducting research and establishing regulatory principles for products containing CBD. CBD derives from the hemp plant which contains less than .3% of THC, so there are no psychoactive components. Due to a delay in research and FDA regulation, many are cautious about what is in their favorite CBD products. For those who rushed to purchase after seeing the product on Kylie’s story, all Happy Tea orders will come with information on where and what batch the CBD originates, as required by law. Regulatory concerns have caused many people to be wary of CBD products. However, having such a well-known celebrity endorse, one is bound to give the CBD industry a big boost.
CBD and weight loss
Many users of CBD products claim that it helps to ease anxiety and stress, and sleep issues like insomnia. Kylie’s specific tea promotion centers around general wellness. Which brings into question a critical point– what is CBD’s relation to weight loss?
CBD certainly provides benefits to those getting in shape. The CBD tea that Kylie promoted belongs to a family of detox teas that promise slimmer waistlines. CBD and its relationship to weight loss are still mostly unknown. Trials show promising results that CBD can help with weight loss.
Early studies suggest that CBD might help to boost metabolism and reduce food intake. Most likely, CBD affects weight by interacting with CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are found mainly in the brain and the central nervous system. CB2 receptors are throughout the body. With overweight individuals, CB1 receptors become more prevalent and in fatty tissue. There is likely a link between CB1 and obesity, but we are still awaiting research and any conclusive results. The testing to date has mostly taken place with rats and test tubes.
The Celebrity Endorsements Continue
The Kardashians aren’t the only significant players who have been charmed by the effects of CBD. Jennifer Aniston, Seth Rogan, and Tom Hanks have all publically spoke out in favor of CBD. Currently, one in every seven Americans are using some form of CBD products. As more celebrities and influencers come forward to endorse their favorite CBD products, the issue will become more mainstream and familiar. No doubt we will soon see more and more CBD-infused products on the shelves of our favorite retailers.
